CRITERION I: CURRICULUM PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

The Mission, Vision and objective of S.R.R. Govt. Arts & Science College, Karimnagar is amply reflected in the college motto of “Work is Worship”. Right from its inception in 1956 till today, the college has striven to achieve excellence in providing quality education. Empowerment of Men & Women by developing in them a thirst for knowledge, research, freedom of expression, respect for culture and generating sensitivity towards one’s environment are some of the focal points around which the Institution works.

Ø The college offers seventeen undergraduate courses and seven postgraduate courses in Micro-Biology, Chemistry, Telugu, English, Commerce, Economics and Zoology and 10 Certificate Courses are introduced to cater the diverse needs of  2473 regular, around 350 certificate course students and 1500 distance mode students .
Ø The college adopted Semester System & Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2016.  The concept of parallel education runs deep in our curriculum and all departments in the college organize seminars, conferences, study tours and other academic activities to strengthen the teaching learning process.
Ø Continuous Internal Evaluation of the students ensures prompt interventions for the effective transaction of the curriculum.
Ø The various Departments, the Staff Council, committees, student clubs as well as active NCC and NSS units run comprehensive programmes for the betterment of the students in particular and society at large.
Ø Committees like Internal Complaints Committee and Women Empowerment Cell have been created to address the special needs of the women students.
Ø Curriculum enrichment would remain incomplete if technological developments are not incorporated. Hence computer subject is instroduced in most of our UG and PG programme.
Ø The college keeps pace with most of the technological shifts related to education.
Ø Continuous efforts are made to update college infrastructure like the college library, Auditorium Hall, website, college office, the classrooms and labs.
Ø With the latest technology, S.R.R. Government Arts & Science College, Karimnagar has an active TSKC & Career Guidance Cell that not only helps students in getting jobs but also works towards making them employment ready to meet global challenges.
Ø Alfred Lord Tennyson said “Follow Knowledge like a sinking star; beyond the utmost bounds of human thought”. Efforts are made to provide students who are mostly from socially and economically weaker sections of society and often first generation learners with all facilities that would equip them to face the challenges of life with boldness and courage.
Ø Faculty is involved as members of Board of Studies, Satavahana University, Karimnagar.
Ø Feedback is obtained from students, faculty, academic experts and other stakeholders and programmes are revised from time to time.
Ø Curriculum is revised by govt. of Telangana and introduced CBCS system from the academic year 2016-17.
Ø The college has academic flexibility to design and offer job-oriented certificate courses. The results are introduction of Journalism, Social Work, Basic Beautician, Consumer Protection, Water & Soil Analysis, Yoga, Perani Dance, Memory, Library & Information Science and Calligraphy. 

CRITERION II:  TEACHING – LEARNING AND EVAUATION

S.R.R. Govt. Arts & Science College, Karimnagar is a Government college and admissions into various courses are made strictly adhering to the reservation policy of the Government. This year, admission process was online with the portal named DOST initiated by Government of Telangana. Government guidelines are strictly followed throughout the admission process with regards to minimum eligibility, age and reservation for various categories of students till the online process is introduced and same is also followed by Govt. of Telangana. A comparison of admissions into Government colleges in Karimnagar reveals that the college is very popular among admission seekers.  The college has created facilities for differently abled students in accordance with the government guidelines. Only few students who are physically handicapped are there.

Ø Admission process is publicized through the college website, printed prospectus and local news papers.
Ø Committees like the Internal Complaints Cell and Grievance Redressal Cell ensure that no student is at a disadvantage and all are given equal opportunities to acquire knowledge and develop themselves.
Ø Special classes and add-on classes are held to help students keep pace with the needs of the curriculum as many of our students are first generation learners.
Ø Students have access to scholarships.
Ø The college has active NCC and NSS units, Eco-Club, Women Empowerment Cell (WEC), Career Guidance Cell and Sports, Literary and Cultural Committees. These units work towards the overall personality development of students. Activities like industrial trips and filed trips are organized by the college.
Ø There are qualified and experienced teachers holding NET, SET qualified, Ph.D. & M.Phil Degrees.
Ø The faculty is engaged in a number of research projects.  A number of State and National level workshops and seminars have been organized during the past five years, details of which are included in Annexure V.
Ø Faculty is provided opportunities for staff development programmes for upgrading their knowledge and teaching skills.
Ø The college takes utmost care for regular and timely continuous internal assessment of the students.
Ø The Examination work has been computerized to make the process quick, efficient and transparent. The progress of the students is monitored by conducting unit tests. They are motivated to present class seminars and pursue project works.
Ø The evaluation reforms introduced by the affiliating university are followed and the grievances of the students are redressed.
Ø Latest ICT techniques and equipment are used to make learning more efficient.
Ø Sustainable curricular practices by using modern teaching aids like OHP & LCD Power Point presentation, blogs and webiste are followed to achieve academic excellence.
Ø The faculty has received state and national awards, recognition and fellowships.

CRITERION III: RESEARCH, CONSULTANCY AND EXTENSION

The college strives to foster the spirit of research amongst students and the faculty. The college tries to inculcate a culture of learning based on questioning and self access. The faculty and students are encouraged to undertake and pursue research activities. Teachers play a vital role in undertaking and promoting research and they are instrumental in arousing curiosity among students. 

Ø Several faculty members are currently supervising student’s research projects, MBA, M.Phil scholars and are engaged in minor research projects.
Ø The college strives to create an environment conducive to research by granting study leave for Ph.D. and on duty leave for presenting papers and attending conferences as per UGC guidelines and Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Telangana. It supports the faculty members in getting funding from government and non-government organizations.
Ø Faculty members has taken up 14 Minor Research Projects, of which 02 are completed and 01 is ready to submit.
Ø Faculty members are guiding student study project, M.B.A. and M.Phil Projects.
Ø Research articles are published in reputed journals, Text books, Course material and MANA TV lessons are generated by the faculty.
Ø Latest Journals are subscribed.
Ø Consultancy services are offered by the faculty.
Ø The college is responsive to community needs, extension programmes and collaborations.
Ø NCC, NSS and Games & Sports Departments encourage students to participate in various competitions and also in community development and extension activities. 
Ø Information about scholarship programs and funds available for research at different levels is regularly disseminated.
Ø The college provides infrastructural facilities, latest software and ensures that recent editions of books are available in the library.
Ø Academic activities like State and National conferences, seminars, workshops, training programs and sensitization programs are a regular feature of the college calendar.
Ø These activities help in arousing the curiosity of the students and faculty members towards new avenues and provide a platform to share their research and knowledge with a larger audience.

Ø R,Sanjeev, Lecturer in Chemistry has received Best NCC Officer Award.

CRITERION IV: INFRASTRUCTURE AND LEARNING RESOURCES

S.R.R. Govt. Arts & Science College, Karimnagar was established in 1956 with few students. By 2016, it has proudly grown into a college that offers seventeen undergraduate courses and seven Postgraduate courses to 2473 students.

Ø  The college is situated in an easily accessible and prime location at Karimnagar.

Ø  The college is spread over 26 acres of land with academic blocks and an administrative block and is full of greenery, Mango and Rose gardens, Model Watershed, Check dam, Vermi-compost plant with peaceful ambience.
Ø  The college has 9361 sq meters of built-up covered area which includes the ground floor and the first floor.
Ø  The Commissioner of Collegiate Education is the chairperson and Principal is ex-officio secretary. They look after all matters pertaining to the infrastructure, academics, finance and development of the college.
Ø  The academic block has 75 class rooms, 10 laboratories, a big auditorium and well equipped seminar hall. It also has a separate TSKC lab, English language lab for effective teaching and learning.
Ø  A separate building for library with reading room and internet facilities and open access system is there. It houses around 50,742 books on all disciplines and has a Reading Room with an e-corner.
Ø  The library is equipped with Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility and internet connectivity for accessing online journals, books and lectures. In addition to this, there is an INFLIBNET portal to facilitate e-learning and providing both in-house and remote access to the required reading material.
Ø  The computer laboratories are equipped with the latest software to meet the needs of the curriculum.
Ø  The college is planning for Wi-Fi enabled zone.
Ø  All the departments of the institution are provided with Internet and Broad- band connectivity for global awareness.
Ø  The college has 01 gymnasium for students.
Ø  In addition, there is a big Auditorium, Digital Classroom at Chemistry, Zoology and Microbiology departments, a research centre near Chemistry department, a big playground and a botanical garden.
Ø  There are 05 well maintained Toilets for Men, Women & Staff members separately.
Ø  There are separate rooms for NCC, NSS and Health Care Centre.
Ø  The college has well equipped Examination Branch for conducting university exams and other competitive exams such as TSPSC, CA, Bank, SI, etc.
Ø  Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University Regional Centre building is an integral part of the institution.
Ø  Taking into consideration the increasing number of students being admitted each year, there is a need to add additional classrooms and laboratories to the existing infrastructure.
Ø  The college proposes to add another academic block in the near future with the help of RUSA grant which has been sanctioned for infrastructural development. 
Ø  The college has power backup in TSKC and computer labaratories to maintain uninterrupted power supply.
Ø  R.O system has been installed to ensure safe drinking water and fire extinguishers have been provided in all laboratories.
Ø  The college has good ambience reach with greenery around the building.

CRITERION V: STUDENT SUPPORT AND PROGRESSION

All round development of the students is the primary objective of the college. All efforts are made to provide facilities to the students for improving their performance in academics, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

Ø  The college encourages its meritorious students by awarding them with Gold medals in Academic festival every year.
Ø  Students from SC/ST/OBC categories and those from economically weaker sections are provided financial assistance in the form of scholarships.
Ø  There are no special facilities for physically challenged students. But supporting staff of the college helps them as and when required.
Ø  The college has a health centre on campus.
Ø  Students are given extensive exposure through various educational, industrial tours and field trips.
Ø  It not only enhances their knowledge and understanding of the subject but also gives them hands on experience.
Ø  Students regularly visit institutes of higher learning, industry and research centres.
Ø  The college has a career guidance cell which with the help of TSKC actively organizes placement drives for students. Many students are placed every year in well-known companies.
Ø  The Grievance Redressal Cell and the Internal Complaints Committee address issues pertaining to the problems of the students.

Ø  This college has a record of excellent examination results and efforts are made to improve the performance of the students with the introduction of CBCS in 2016.

Ø  Special efforts are made by means of practice tests and counselling to help students achieve higher levels of learning and performance in examinations. Mentor and Mentee pattern is instructuced through TSKC in February, 2017.

Ø  The Academic calendar of college is drawn in advance every year.

Ø  Seminars, conferences and lectures by experts in different fields are some of the activities organized for the benefit of students and teachers.

Ø  The NCC unit trains the cadets and gives them exposure through camps and participation in various events like Republic Day Parade and National Integration Camps.

Ø  The NSS units foster in students a sense of social responsibility such as participating in Swacch Bharath, Haritha Haram, Awareness on HIV/AIDS, Blood donation camps, Consumerism, enrollment in Voters list etc. 

Ø  The students are groomed in various sports and games.

Ø  They actively participate in many inter university and inter college competitions.

Ø  The college has cultural and literary clubs and the students are encouraged to participate in inter college and inter university competitions.

Ø  Students are excelling in literary activities G.Sanjeev, B.Com and S.Anil has pen down many literary works for which many awards and Honours were given to them in the State.

Ø  Cultural and Literary activities are also organized in the college.

Ø  The students have won prizes and brought laurels to the college.

Ø  The students are involved in the college activities in many ways.

Ø  Student representatives are included in many of the committees such as IQAC, Women Empowerment Cell, Internal Complaints Committee, Cultural Committee and the Library Committee.

Ø  Feedback from students is obtained on teaching –learning-evaluation, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and support services.

CRITERION VI: GOVERNANCE, LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

S.R.R. Government Arts & Science College, Karimnagar focuses on the all round development of students. The college grooms students to be academically sound and responsible, and to play key roles in building a culturally sensitive and knowledge based society. The leadership and management of the college work towards achieving this objective by providing an effective governance which is participatory and transparent.

Ø  The college has a clear vision and mission, well executed through the programmes in a transparent and democratic spirit.

Ø  Fair and speedy Grievance Redressal Cell is effectively functioning in the college.

Ø  Finances are judiciously allocated and properly utilized through various committees.

Ø  Computer training is given to Teaching Non-teaching staff and office work is computerized to some extent.

Ø  Distinguished Alumni and Retired Staff Association extend full support and contribute their mite to the growth and development of the college.

Ø  The District Collegiate Education and Development Review Committee (DCEDRC) headed by the district collector reviews and monitors the developmental activities of the college on quarterly basis.

Ø  The Commissioner of Collegiate Education is the chairperson of the Governing body which is the apex executive and regulatory body.

Ø  The Staff Council, comprising of Incharges of Departments takes academic and related decisions under the chairmanship of the Principal.

Ø  The Staff Council, the various committees and departments effectively implement these decisions after thorough planning and discussion.


Ø  The decision-making process is thus highly consensus-oriented and motivates the participants to take full responsibility of the same.

Ø  The leadership ensures that quality of actions and policies is steadily enhanced through constant evaluation and monitoring. It makes all efforts to ensure effective implementation of quality policies.

Ø  The college provides a congenial and free environment to its stake holders by interacting with them formally and informally, by taking their feedback on various aspects.

Ø  They are encouraged to provide their suggestions and ideas for effective working of the institution, thus promoting a culture of excellence.

It exercises effective control, displays integrity, openness and transparency in working. In alignment with its vision, the college has a perspective plan of development that covers all aspects viz. infrastructure, academic up-gradation, faculty development, research and extension services and community engagement.
Ø  The college has established Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The quality enhancement policies are communicated to all stake holders and collective efforts are made to implement them smoothly and create a dynamic environment.

CRITERION VII: INNOVATIONS AND BEST PRACTICES

Ø  The building of S.R.R. Government Arts & Science College, Karimnagar is designed in such a way that it has well lit classrooms, staff rooms, laboratories and administrative block.

Ø  The college promotes environmental consciousness by inculcating the habit of water and energy conservation amongst the faculty, administrative staff and students.

Ø  It strives to make campus pollution free.

Ø  The college has done a Harita Haram Programme for greenery in its campus. A number of steps have been taken to make the campus eco – friendly.

Ø  The campus is planning to go for “no-plastic zone”.

Ø  There is an emphasis on the use of paper bags and cloth bags which can be reused/ recycled and are bio – degradable.

Ø  The college has adopted the practice of promoting environment protection through Eco Club and Harithaharam programme, the Government initiative of greening the State of Telangana.

Ø  High speed Internet, Wi-Fi facility, highly sophisticated software, INFLIBNET and OPAC facilities are available for use of students and staff.

Ø  The Complaint Box, Student counselling, Student feedback, Mentor Mentee pattern (February, 2017) and sustained efforts to develop skills in students from socially and economically weaker sections of society are some of the key features of the innovative measures taken by the college.

Ø  The Women Empowerment Cell ensures that inclusive practices for SC/ST/OBC students have been adopted and all efforts are made to empower the young women by building their confidence and developing leadership skills in them to be active participants in the society and in the nation building process.
Ø  There is a planned team work with complete coordination among all the departments.

Ø  The faculty work with dedication and interest to develop the institution.

Ø  Collective decisions are taken in all matters pertaining to the institution.

Ø  Student-friendly faculty impart value-based education and encourage the students to imbibe personality development and leadership qualities. Students actively involved in Civil and Social responsibilities and community extension activities under the aegis of NCC, NSS and Sports & Games Departments. Nearby villages are selected for their development by NSS.

Ø  The college publishes College Magazine (Sahiti Chetana), Research Magazine (Vinuthna) and Hand Book (containing the information regarding College Academic, Administrative and Examination activities).

Ø  Literary Forum is functioning to enhance the Literary Knowledge in the staff and students. The result is a national seminar Documention and Dissemination of Liguistic Literary and Cultural Heritage- The Role of Cinema by the department of Telugu.

Ø  Every year all the science departments are demonstrating the basic science practical’s for school and 10+2 students for enhancement of Scientific Temper

Ø  Every year, the department Telugu is conducting the District level Telugu Poet Meet “Maneti Kavitha Ganam” to encourage and develop poetic attitudes in youth.

Ø  727 campus placements achieved during last five years.

Ø  61 Gold Medals are presented to meritorious students every year.

Ø  Century plant by the department of Botany is grown.

Ø  Students study projects are selected for presentation in JIGYASA programmes organized by Higher Education Department, Govt. of Telangana.

Ø  Heath Camp for Staff & Students are organized.

Ø  Many number of certificate courses are instroduced for skill development.

Ø  A research magazine by name VINUTNA magazine.

Ø  All the important days in a calander year are celebrated to understand to the importance of those days.
